The death of Trudy just made him have a complete breakdown. I don't think he'll ever be completely "normal." In fact, seeing him being so out-of-touch but still happy ("Do you know The Internet? One reason I was drawn to the series in the first place was because Monk reminded me of my dad. Not that my dad has OCD, or at least, he's not anywhere near as bad as Monk, but he does have his little peculiarities ... like pouring hot water on his toothbrush for half a minute after brushing his teeth. They didn't prevent him from having a successful career, getting married and raising two kids, though. I liked that Monk was not "normal", but he was still a functioning adult, if just barely at times. Monk didn’t get totally “cured” did he?
