I believe “we’re making progress” might be a politer way of saying “eventually all the old people will die.”

Yeah, and the problem is that old people are dying without being able to marry the person they love. You’ve got to wonder how long these couples are supposed to wait?

My dad’s argument is, “They’re already equal, they just won’t accept that not everyone approves of their lifestyle so they want to shove it down everyone’s throat.” Argh.

Yeah, also known as “I don’t care if they’re gay, as long as they don’t act gay.” Which is stupid just on its own, but double-plus stupid in this context. Because getting married isn’t acting gay. It’s couples who want to have their own relationships sanctified, acknowledged, and respected just like their (presumably) heterosexual parents’ were.

People use marriage bans as an excuse to voice their disapproval of whatever it is they perceive to be the “gay lifestyle,” which I’m guessing is raves and methamphetamines and pride parades. So because they object to what they see as a hedonistic lifestyle, they punish the people who want to enter into stable, long-term relationships. Brilliant.

It’s really nothing more than an attempt to keep gay people alone and ashamed of themselves. And then they have the nerve to take offense when they’re called “homophobic.”

And he has a number of frustrating stereotypical judgments about homosexuals that I’m sure exist somewhere, but I haven’t had any personal experience with them.
