I thought Palin was "discovered" by some conservative college student blogger; he was interviewed on the Colbert Report and everything.

In any case: Palin is a physically attractive, fundamentalist Christian, pro-gun mother with a good-looking family, government experience in a place no one in the continental 48 states has heard of, and television experience. To a GOP that thought it was going to be running against Hilary Clinton, finding Palin was like a dog finding a litter box full of cat turds.

Giving Kristol credit for choosing Palin would be like if you saw a guy stranded in the desert who found a bottle of water, and you said, "Yeah, but I was the one who told him he should drink it."

P.S. Rick Davis and Nicolle Wallace are the Worst Living Americans.

Kristol does affect the national political process, though--by all accounts, Palin was his idea.

If by "entertainingly" insane you mean "horrifyingly and depressingly," then yes.

But Kristol's just a pundit, unless he's got some other job that I and Wikipedia are unaware of. The reason that Rick Davis and Nicolle Wallace are the Worst Living Americans is that they're actually affecting the national political process. We're already used to people manipulating fear and ignorance for their own gain after the last 8 years, but these guys are using that as a base and piling even more crap on top. They along with the rest of the GOP have actually managed to make "intelligence is bad!" a selling point.

I'm not so sure about their going down with the ship, either, since there's going to be a whole bunch more Republicans running again in 2 years and then another 2 years. Isn't one of the people in charge of McCain's campaign the very person who ran the nasty attack campaign against McCain when he was running against Bush? These people don't go away. They're like remoras, sucking onto a host while he ravages the country, then going off to find another.

Hasn't McCain run the most entertainingly insane campaign you've ever seen, though? You never know what he'll get up to next, except you can be pretty sure that it will be Bill Kristol's idea, he'll praise McCain for doing it, and then a week later when polls show that everyone thinks it was crazy, there Kristol will be on Fox news, deriding it as a stupid idea. I think he's worse than Rick Davis or Nicolle Wallace because at least they're going down with the ship. Kristol hasn't been right about anything, ever, and he'll probably still be doing very well in 2525. If man is still alive. Anyway: great image for this, and great comparison to Joe and Charlie. I would cross party lines and vote for a McCarthy/McCarthy ticket in the 2012 Republican primaries.
