People use the internet to complain. It doesn't matter what it is. If people enjoy something, most likely they won't rush on to the internet to talk about it. You may have a movie, tv show or video game and 96% of people love it, enjoy it and think its fantastic. However you will still get that 4% who rubbish the product online. Also thats all you might see. So yeah I get sick of people complaining on the Internet too even though I've done it myself.

Absolutely, no question about it. The weekend was full of people seriously over-estimating my contributions to the videogame industry. And I had so much sunshine blown up my ass, my farts could power Ed Begley Jr.'s house.

But I'm saying that the difference is almost everybody else followed the Thumper Rule: if you can't say something nice (or you don't care), don't say anything at all. But the internet hates indifference almost as much as it hates things that are more than a few days old. So "I don't care about that" gets turned into "I hate that, and I need to tell you directly how much I hate it."

Also, it's quite possible that you liked the convention because the convention liked you (you were on a couple of game developer panels). I've always found those who admire me to be a fairly agreeable lot. :)
