The GTAIV world is impressive and as a game has yet to reach it's full potential as you have well stated. It will be interesting to see if the future GTAs will incorporate many of the story/sandbox elements you mention. I must admit I'm not a huge fan of the franchise, however after playing IV, I don't find myself bored with the series as with so many other titles who iterate themselves into oblivion. There is so much potential for improvements in the GTA world with custom player created influence on story and the surrounding city environment etc, I can only hope that now that this beautiful 3D city exists, Rockstar will add these elements into the game come future versions and truly capitalize on the infinite possibilities which will add to the game play.
