The added irony is that the corporations tried sooo hard to make RoboCop a cash cow, turn it into sequels, animated cartoons, games, TV shows, amusement ark rides, action figures ferchrissake — all of which diluted the cynicism, violence and messages into a harmless, non-political mush… and all of which failed dismally.

The original still stands (I keep wondering “Where are the cell phones,” though… ;-P)

I’d been thinking to myself for weeks that I need to watch Robocop again. And now I shall. That said, I wonder what’s up with Peter Weller these days? Might have to make it a double-bill with Buckaroo Bonzai. Cronenberg seems to have annointed Vigo Mortensen as the inheritor to Weller’s sallow-cheeked, strong-jawed, ironically humorless schtick.

Steve: the ED-209 only shoots up one executive, but it’s a masterpiece of overkill. That scene is shot like they watched the final scene of The Wild Bunch and thought, “pussies.” And yeah, throughout the whole movie, they treat shots to the kneecaps like they were warning shots.

Cory: No worries, as far as I’m concerned this is 100% a Paul Verhoeven movie. If he weren’t involved, I wouldn’t be interested.

More movies need scenes where a stop motion animated robot shoots an entire board room of executives. That does happen right?
All I remember from Robocop is that is crazy violent ( people don’t just get shot they get shot in the kneecaps, and worse if i recall ), and i wanted Ed-209 to win the robot fight at the end.
