In Beowulf's case, it was that the line in the commercial, "I... am... BEOWULF!" was delivered so poorly, and the animation on the face was so bad that I immediately and totally lost any interest in seeing the movie. Clearly, for any bit that some poor animator slaved over to get just right, a bunch of stuff got through looking really, really bad.
