After monopolizing Marin theaters recently, Cinemark has promptly cut all later showings at all the theaters they own except the crappy multiplex at the mall. This basically means that working folks who want to unwind at a 9 or 10-something show can jolly well do without - or trek over to the smelly, unkempt microscreens at Northgate Mall. I asked an usher-drone about this and despite being semi-conscious, he was clear on the concept - Cinemark is about the bottom line, and if they think running a theater past 9pm doesn't fill enough seats, they close it the hell down. That means if you're seeing a 7-something show, better get your goodies soon because they close the concession stand at 8:30. Tough titty, said this kitty. Now we can just wait (pray) until Cinemark is bought out or sells Marin's theaters. I can only hope that the historically quick turnaround in these parts holds true for them as well. She knows I will do nothing but mock them and ruin her evening so she goes and sees them with lady friends...as it should be...in secret shame. Eric (my 9 yr old son) has also put forth the idea that now that Cinemart (or whatever the hell it's called) has a lock on our marin theatres, that the trailers are more violent, even for softer family movies. But hey, how about that rack on Joe's cat girlfriend? Huh? Mee-ow! It would have been awesome if she had like 8 breasts (or however many real, non-creepily-anthroomorphized cats have), right? Dude!
