Just seems like a weird time to come out with a new line of computers that will have an OS that’s old and creaky in a few months, thus making all those people have to purchase the new OS separately.

Hey…wait a minute…

Well, you get the new iLife for "free." But the smart people are going to be waiting until October to get the new OS and the new iLife included with their shiny new computer.

It's kind of odd how the white plastic fits with certain items (the iPod, the Macbook, the Nintendo DS) and not at all with other pieces. Just my opinion, but I could never get into the aesthetic of the previous iMac and I think it was mainly because of the white plastic which made it hard for me to take seriously. But somehow I think it works fantastic with the DS. I don't think it's a size thing because the iPhone would look stupid in white plastic.

Aren't they coming out with a new OS soon? Or has that been pushed back even more? Just seems like a weird time to come out with a new line of computers that will have an OS that's old and creaky in a few months, thus making all those people have to purchase the new OS separately.

No offense taken, it's purely a matter of preference. It's odd, the white plastic to me was from toy-like -- It was clean, and had almost a sci-fi like quality, like something out of 2001 or Star Wars, while managing not to seem hokey. By contrast, the new ones seem soulless to me, somehow less Apple-like. I like the iPhone's design, I just don't think it maps well to a computer.

Anyway, discovered your weblog today. It's good stuff!

I don't know about "defense," since it's just personal preference, but I think the new design is better than the old one in every possible way. No offense to your new purchase, but the white plastic of the previous iMacs has always bugged me; it's made them seem cheap and toy-like.

And I've heard other people say that the black bevel on the new model makes the picture "pop" more, but I didn't notice that one way or the other at the store. I just think it's a nice accent, and I get the same "images magically appearing on a sheet of black glass" impression as I do from the iPhone.

What are your opinions on the aesthetics of the new iMac casing? It's been a subject of a lot of back and forth. Count me in the 'dislike' camp (I went out and upgraded to an old style 24" white iMac a few days ago since it would be my last chance) but I'm open to hearing a good defense of that black bevel. :)
