Looks like you were right, DRP. As unoriginal and unnecessary a Starcraft MMO would've been, a graphical update to a 10-year-old game is even less necessary.

And I've been thinking, and I can't imagine how they could've made this gameplay video any less interesting. (I'm sure there are Starcraft junkies out there who see that and get palpitations, though).

Eh, it was fun to pretend, anyway.

Now, on the other hand, the new Half-Life 2 episode is going to completely change videogames as we know them! Or is Bioshock supposed to be the messiah of games now? I've lost track.

will my zergling be able to craft new pants?

You're still thinking small, Cory. Right now the game is completely imaginary, so it can be whatever you want it to be. I believe the Starcraft MMO is going to use a completely pants-crafting based game mechanic.

And Jeff: five by five. Also: This is Jimmy!

I wish it would include some of the elements you mentioned, but the cynic thinks it’ll be the same old same old. They could essentially re-skin WoW and still make shitloads of cold hard cash. Who knows…

I probably just still have an overly-optimistic view of the videogame industry, but I think Blizzard is one of the few remaining companies who wouldn't do this. This is based on their new game types in WoW and their continued Mac support — they both have some profit incentive to them, but it can't possibly be enough to warrant the cost.

I like to think that the only reason they made it to light is because somebody (or some group of people) within the company feels strongly enough about them to push them through, and the games make so much money they can afford to do extra instead of just cranking out the bare minimum. Sure, people would continue to buy the games even if they were PC only and just had the basic leveling and a few dungeons. But as long as they can afford to put more in there, why not?

There's no chance that a Starcraft MMO (if it does exist) would be as different in scope as I make it out to be. But I'm pretty confident that it'd have (if it does exist) enough new game mechanics in it to distinguish it from just "WoW in Space."

I too, suck at the StarCrafts. Even though I just canceled (and uninstalled) my WoW subscription for the *4th* time, I do feel it's over for me. I just have too much stuff to do, and so little time for games these days. Having said that, if StarCraft MMO ever sees the light of day, I'll be a moth to the flame.
