People here do not put education first, which is really sad. The war is OVER, you lost, move on with your lives. Religion is PERSONAL, worry about your own beliefs. We see too many people down here putting their fishing, hunting, trucks, etc., before their own families well-being. Northerners aren’t ruining the South, the “Southerners” have already done that themselves.

I agree with real southerner. Atlanta is NOTHING like the rest of the state. I am from a small town only an hour and a half from atlanta and the grocery store is still family owned and we did not get a police department until about 4 years ago. If you look you can still find the small towns. Its not the southerners thats ruining the south its the northerners that are moving down here. I can say that based on the yankees that are trying to change our town cause they say we are “out dated.”

Yea um- you’re from Atlanta it sounds like, so nothing you said really counts. ATL is not Georgia and it’s not the South.

What I hate about GA: EVERYTHING.

The lack of emphasis on education.
The way everyone is still pissed about the civil war.
The bad food.
The crappy soil -nothing grows.
The traffic.
The drugs.
The non-work ethic.

The only good thing? It’s Cheap. But then again -you get what you pay for.

Yo, I just got back from souf cackalacka, and I’ve been to Georgia, so I feel you. The south, while fun, is fucked up beyond all recognition.

I agree with you on so much of that, but I still love the place like crazy. But I will insist on calling Evans Beasleys always (where’s the italics button?), and I’m about ready to cry over the constant expansion of the super stores down here… have you SEEN what they’ve done to Ga. 20, across from Irwin Place? It’s insanity. Conyers used to be defined by the number of, what, Waffle Houses? Now it’s the land of banks and churches. And while I’m all about money (which I have none of) and churches (which I’m up to my nose in), enough is enough. All the lightning bugs are going to find themselves homeless, but we’ll be able to cruise the Super Target at whatever end of town we can manage to traverse the traffic jams into.

But I still love it.

As someone who is still living here, I don’t know if it has gotten worse or if we just didn’t know any better. The endless strip malls and apartments have ruined our hometown. But certainly there are some things that are uniquely Southern. Hopefully, we won’t lose those.

Good posting, Chuck. Fun to hear your reflections on the hometown. I get nostalgic about GA too, and when I go back I remember both the things I hate and the things I love. I haven’t had a good biscuit since I moved away, but I don’t miss the mosquitos.
