Jeff, those copies your friend has are probably just as good as the DVDs Lucas is pooping on to the public. The natives are grumbling about how the OG films are just going to be crappy laserdisc transfers, with no image or audio improvements. And they won't be anamorphic widescreen, either. Apparently, Lucas is saying the laserdisc transfer prints are the best prints of the films he's got.

Seriously. He expects us to believe this bullshit? It's almost funny.

I was almost going to fork over the dough for these. I never bothered to buy any of the "Special Edition" DVD releases, so I didn't have the buying the same movies twice issue. But I do have the first two movies on laserdisc, and if those are as good as they're gonna get, forget it.

(I never bought "Jedi" because original or special edition, I prefer to think that the majority of that movie never actually happened.)

Could this all be a move to quash the burgeoning bootleg trade of untampered-with OT discs? A friend has a very slick set of the original flms, somehow yanked off the old laserdiscs and squeezed on to DVR. They looked and sounded pretty slick to my untrained eyes and ears.

Word.

Except for the part where I'm not going to buy them in old stinky DVD format. Because I know I am, and there's no use denying it.

Besides, if I get the Blu-Ray then HD-DVD will become the standard, and vice versa. And then they'll release the extra-super-special Blu-Ray edition afterwards, with the really cool features.

Not to mention, they announce the DVDs the month after the commercial release of the first HD-DVD player. Thanks again, George, but I'm waiting to get them on Blu-Ray.
